• Two-story great rooms — wall-of-glass windows that are physically impossible to reach without a ladder
• Transom and arched windows — common above main windows and entry doors, often needing custom-shaped treatments

• Open kitchen/living concepts — meaning whatever you put on one window is visible from every room

Working with the Builders

The builders active in Windsong Ranch — Highland Homes, Britton Homes, American Legend Homes, and others — all leave window treatments to the buyer. What they include is typically a basic 2-inch faux wood blind or nothing at all. Either way, you'll want to upgrade.

What that means in practice:

• Pre-closing measurement is possible. We can come measure 2–4 weeks before your closing date with the builder's permission — most agents will arrange this without issue.
• Builder blinds rarely get reused. Most homeowners we work with give them away or recycle them. Don't plan around keeping them.
• Smart home wiring is usually pre-installed. Highland and American Legend homes in Windsong typically come pre-wired for low-voltage motorization in great rooms.

2. 2–3 weeks before closing — final measurement at the builder's walkthrough. With permission from your builder rep, we measure every window. Order is placed.
3. Closing day — keys in hand. Your treatments are already in production.
4. Week 1 post-closing — install day. Most whole-home jobs install in 4–8 hours. You're not living with bare windows or builder blinds.

Refreshing an Existing Home

Windsong has been around long enough that the earliest sections (built around 2014–2018) are seeing their first major window treatment upgrades. If you're in this group, a few things to know:

• Builder blinds are at end-of-life. 7–10 years is the typical lifespan; slats fade, mechanisms wear, and cords fray. Replacement isn't optional much longer.
• Resale value matters. The Windsong resale market is active and shutters consistently show up in listing photos as a buyer differentiator. If you plan to sell in the next 3 years, this is a measurable ROI upgrade.
• You can do it in phases. Main living areas first ($4,000–$6,000), bedrooms second, secondary spaces third. Many Windsong customers complete in 2–3 phases over a year.

Mistakes We See in This Neighborhood

After installing across Windsong Ranch, a few patterns repeat. Avoid these:

1. Choosing 2-inch louvers in Windsong's tall rooms. The architectural scale calls for 3.5-inch (or 4.5-inch) louvers — anything smaller looks out of proportion in a 10-foot-ceiling room.
2. Skipping motorization on two-story great rooms. Manual cords on 14-foot windows fail within months. If you skip motorization here, you'll regret it.
3. Going too dark with stained wood. Windsong homes lean light and airy. Dark walnut shutters can shrink the visual space — better suited to the smaller library or office than the open main floor.
